Here are 3 brand new sets direct from therobsta. These are part of a series of 5 distinct mixsets, which are to be broadcast on 105.7 PulzarFM. The 3 sets included here take the listener on a journey through some wonderful vocal house to straight house and then into the realm of electro. The first set is vocal heavy and contains a nice range of clubby and discohouse tracks. The second set is a pure house set–absolutely brilliant track selection–and the third set is upbeat electro. Rob also mixed two “twisted” sets, which I’ll put into the next entry. I like to leave a certain amount of time between posts to give everyone a chance to listen to the latest mixes before they disappear down the list.
I really enjoyed putting this set together. As always, I search for a range of tunes that will build a progression and take the listener on a journey. This journey starts with some club sounding funky house before transitioning to the middle section of the set…a harder club sound. We then hint back towards the funky/vocal sound, which makes a triumphant return at the end of the mix.
This mix will be broadcast on Christchurch’s Pulzar FM in high quality format. If you’re in Christchurch, tune in to Pulzar on 105.7FM.
Another brilliant offering from one of Christchurch City’s most experienced DJs. Rob Munro (aka “therobsta”) has produced a definitive house mix representative of the April/May 09 house scene. This epic mix contains Rob’s usual variety of “get up and move” house tunes.
Last Saturday I did a back-to-back set with Rob at the Pulzar FM launch party. The club (Liquidity) was packed, and all had a great time. We must do that again

Here is the Finale in the Enlightenment series. In this set I return to some melodic house sounds, with lots of nice vocals. There is a disco/funky feel to the start of the set. Of course, all mixsets need to take the listener on a journey, and to this end Enlightenment 4 slowly edges towards some good chunky electro beats.
This is where the Enlightenment journey finishes. We’ve come full circle. Enlightenment is over 4 hours of pure house goodness. Each mix can stand alone, or can be played consequetively for a full party.
This mix will be broadcast on Christchurch’s Pulzar FM in high quality format. If you’re in Christchurch, tune in to Pulzar on 105.7FM.

“Enlightenment 4 - The Finale” - by DJ Maestro B (April 2009)
Enlightenment - The Third Movement is the next in my current series of four mixsets. Unlike the previous mix, the music in this one has a harder edge and is a little lighter on the vocals. This mix is also distinct from Enlightenment 2 in that it builds more of a journey. It starts with a nice disco-house style track and moves quickly through to the harder sound, which makes up the majority of the set. There is a temporary reprieve in the middle of the set with the song “Fly”. The set then continues until it softens again with the final two tracks. In this way the listener is taken on the style of journey that I have written about here before.
As with all my mixset recordings, I have a planned structure in which I attempt to emulate the progression of my live performances. It is a challenge to reproduce the structure without a visible audience to feed off, but there are benefits in having no live audience. It allows the DJ to try tracks that may not work in a live setting. And, of course, being able to pre-plan the set structure has obvious advantages.
This mix is also going to be broadcast on Christchurch based radio station “Pulzar FM”, in high quality format.
See you back for Enlightenment - The Finale.

“Enlightenment 3 - The Third Movement” - by DJ Maestro B
Enlightenment - The Second Movement is a follow up to my Enlightenment One. The music in this mix is generally laid back, with an electro flavor. The purpose of the Enlightenment series is to provide three mixsets of different character. They can each stand on their own, or they can be played together for a complete 3 hour journey.
When producing mixsets for radio or websites, I spend time planning the structure, which is a different approach to DJ’ing live. The challenge is producing a mixset that replicates the feeling of a club for people who are listening at home.
This mix is also going to be broadcast on Christchurch based radio station “Pulzar FM”, in high quality format.

“Enlightenment 2 - The Second Movement” - by DJ Maestro B
Welcome to my first mixset recording for 2009. This is the first in a new series I’m launching called “Enlightenment”. As always, I focus of building a structure for the set.
My aim in all mixsets is to take the listener on a meaningful journey. To this end I plan the set by carefully selecting tracks that will engage the listener, build them up through cycles of anticipation and release.
This set starts, as usual, with some melodic disco house tracks. I then experiment with some electro and indie sounding tracks. Listen through, there are a few surprises in here

Produced for the relaunch of PulzarFM, therobsta’s latest mix takes us on a journey of sounds currently popular in the Australian clubs. Rob recently returned from 6 months in Brisbane, Australia, and he brings with him a nice touch of the club sounds from across the Tasman.
Technically, this set is mixed to perfection. The mix was obviously well planned, and Rob definitely knows his music. The music has a sort of electro feel, with a nice combination of traditional house and indie sounding vocals.
Keep an ear open for “Blue Monday”, a remix that maintains a strong connection to the track’s original feel.
